Listing Guidelines

What we list, what we don't, and how we decide.

Visalia365 is a calendar for the whole community. We review every event against the same rules, whoever is hosting it. We decide based on what the event is, never on who the organizer is or what they believe.

What we list

An event can be listed if it is:

  • Open to the public. Anyone can attend, even if there's a ticket price or registration.
  • At a specific date and time, in Visalia or nearby in Tulare County.
  • Something to attend: a performance, class, game, meeting, festival or other gathering. An ad for a business isn't an event.

Common questions

Churches and faith groups

Special events that are open to everyone are welcome: concerts, festivals, food drives, holiday productions, Vacation Bible School and community dinners. Regular weekly services, and gatherings for members only, aren't listed. The same rule applies to every faith.

Businesses and grand openings

A grand opening or ribbon cutting can be listed when there's something to attend on a set day, such as food, music, giveaways or activities. Sales, ongoing specials and “now open” announcements aren't events. To promote those, see our Advertise page.

Political and civic events

We list nonpartisan civic events, such as town halls, candidate forums, public hearings and city council meetings. We don't list campaign rallies or fundraisers for any candidate, party or ballot measure.

Events some people may disagree with

We list events from all parts of the community, including religious, cultural and LGBTQ events, as long as they meet these guidelines. A listing doesn't mean we endorse the event or its host. If an event isn't for you, the category filters and email alerts let you see only what you're interested in.

Audience

Organizers can say who an event is for, and we show it on the listing. Please pick the one that fits, especially for events with adult content or alcohol.

  • All ages: anyone can come
  • Family friendly: planned with kids in mind
  • 18 and over: adults only
  • 21 and over: alcohol served, or a 21+ venue

If an event's audience is missing or clearly wrong, we may set it during review.

What we don't list

  • Events that promote hostility toward, or harassment of, any group or person
  • Illegal activity, or events that break venue or city rules
  • False, misleading or spam listings, including events that aren't really happening
  • Private events, such as weddings, private parties and members-only meetings
  • Anything that breaks our Terms of Service

How we review

We review new events and edits before they appear. We may fix typos, formatting or the category, but we won't change what an event is about. If we can't list an event, we'll tell you which guideline it didn't meet.

Paid Promoted events and sponsor spots must meet these guidelines too, and also follow the advertising rules in our Terms of Service. Paying doesn't change whether an event can be listed.

Think a listing breaks these guidelines, or that we made the wrong call on yours? Email hello@visalia365.com. We look at each report against these guidelines. How many reports a listing gets doesn't decide it.
